The Kakao Pay wallet was founded in 2014 by Kakao Group which is a leading mobile Internet company in South Korea. Kakao Group is the first company to provide mobile payment and is the most popular mobile payment and digital wallet in South Korea.
Kakao Pay (KKP) allows users to make mobile payments or online transactions. It provides services such as online shopping, bill payment, insurance, loans, and investment. Those services support near field communication and QR code scanning to make non-contact payment.
The following table lists the product properties supported by Kakao Pay:
[1] Preferred merchants: This tier of transaction limits needs case-by-case application and approval from Kakao Pay.
[2] The high-risk MCC list is being finalized by Kakao Pay.
[3] Downgraded if incident (fraud or scams) occurs. If an incident results in a change to the merchant’s tier, KKP will notify in advance.
[4] High-liquidity merchants: Merchants have cash equivalent business such as chargeable goods/services, top-up, gaming, and gift card.
[5] Automatic Response System (ARS) is a verification by a phone call from KKP to the user to conduct the OTP certification.
