PayMe

Launched in 2017, PayMe by HSBC is a popular mobile wallet in Hong Kong, China. It lets users easily send and receive money using just a phone number, making it ideal for splitting bills, paying friends, or shopping. The app works on both iOS and Android and supports English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

To sign up, users need a Hong Kong ID, a local phone number, and either a bank account or a credit card. Transfers between users are free and instant. PayMe also has a social feature that allows friends to share payment activity with privacy controls. More than 3.2 million people in Hong Kong use PayMe. It’s accepted at many major retailers, including 7-Eleven, McDonald’s, and Foodpanda. Backed by HSBC, PayMe is secure and reliable for everyday payments.

The following figures show the journey of paying with PayMe:

  1. The buyer selects PayMe to pay at the merchant checkout page.
  2. The buyer is redirected to the Antom page to obtain a payment QR code.
  3. The buyer opens the PayMe app to scan the QR code.
  4. The buyer clicks "Pay a business" to make the payment.
  5. The buyer completes the mandatory authentication.
  6. The buyer completes the payment and receives a notification about transaction approved.
  7. The buyer is redirected back to the merchant result page.
